Unfolding From the Inside
Dear Ones,
This week, our first farm snow–exquisitely magical.
The kids bundle and sled, the grown-ups chat and drink tea, the baby sleeps and the animals mosey about. So goes the snowy day routine these near-winter days.
By now with the approach of solstice, I have already experienced the inward tug, the contraction, the folding in from the outside… and with all of it, a type of unfolding from the inside.
There is a time lapse in my mind where I witness the life, vitality and growth above the surface of the earth flattening, freezing, and finally surrendering itself to a rebirth cycle. A halo of warmth around the edges fades. For a moment, only darkness.
In time, the dormancy of everything below the surface begins to stir. Sparks glint from the center of every seed and flash from the tiniest strands of every root. In rapid expanse, light cracks and seeps and spreads and sprawls and suddenly all the earth is aglow from the inside.
I see this in me too. A transference of light energy.
I am not under the sky swimming the sandy salty sea,
But inside,
I am a whole ocean.
The summer breeze that makes my silk and linen sway is gone,
But inside,
I am the vast rise and fall of the earth.
I do not wake to a chorus of finches and vireos,
But inside,
I am rounded and resonant birdsong.
The heat of the sun does not warm through me,
But inside,
I am an everlasting flame.
That’s all for this week, my dear readers. Here’s to growth from the inside out.
Keep your flame alight.
Corinne
PS I did mention on IG I would write a bit about herbs and such today… I did not. Perhaps next week, stay tuned!
PSS I chose to send this newsletter out on Thursdays because it was my slower day here on the farm. That has shifted, and for the next while, Saturday is probably the better bet.
